PV Sindhu set foot in the quarter-final | 2 wins to go for her second Olympics Medal
The World No. 7 female badminton player, hailing from India stormed into the quarterfinals by defeating The World No.12 Mia Blichfeldlt. It took her only 41 minutes to secure her place in the quarterfinals of women’s singles badminton event by beating the Danish shutter 21-15, 21-13 in her Round of 16 match at the Musashino Forest Plaza in Tokyo. Sindhu will most probably face the winner of the Round of 16 match between 4th seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and 12th seed Kim in the upcoming quarter-final.
Sindhu, being aware about the aggressive nature of Mia started the game with an even overpowering aggressive uproar and ultimately defeated her opponent. The two shuttlers, in fact, met twice in 2021 and Sindhu successfully avenged her defeat at the Thailand Open in the Swiss Open. The Rio Olympics silver medalist is only two wins away from her second medal at Olympics and becoming the first Indian woman to achieve this feat.
PV Sindhu | Formative years and Training:
Pusarla Venkata Sindhu was born (5 July 1995) and raised by parents who have both been national level volleyball players. PV Ramana, her father, was a member of the Indian volleyball team that won the bronze medal in 1986 Seoul Asian Games. He also received the Arjuna Award in 2000 for his contribution to the sport. However she chose badminton as she drew her inspiration from the veteran badminton player, Pullela Gopichand. His victory in the 2001 All England Open Badminton Champion moved Sindhu to pick the badminton racket. She eventually started playing badminton from the early age of eight. Mehboob Ali taught her the basics of badminton at the badminton courts of Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad. Soon after, she joined Pullela Gopichand’s Gopichand Badminton Academy and her career and skills skyrocketed.
Even as a kid Pusarla won several titles.
- She won the 5th Servo All India ranking championship in the doubles category and the singles title at the Ambuja Cement All India ranking in the under-10 years category.
- In the under-13 years category, she won the singles title at the Sub-juniors in Pondicherry, doubles titles at the Krishna Khaitan All India Tournament IOC All India Ranking, the Sub-Junior Nationals and the All India Ranking in Pune.
- She also won the under-14 team gold medal at the 51st National State Games in India.

- In January 2020 she was honored with Padma Bhushan Award, the third-highest civilian award in India.
- She was also honoured with Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian award in India, in March 2015
- On 29 August 2016 she received the highest sporting honour of India, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
